The United States booked their place in the last 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a 2-0 victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.

Folarin Balogun opened the scoring for the USA just before half-time, giving the home side a deserved lead after a strong attacking display. The forward reacted quickly inside the box and calmly put the ball past Bosnia-Herzegovina goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj.

However, Balogun’s night ended badly in the second half when he was shown a red card in the 64th minute following a challenge on Tarik Muharemovic. The incident briefly gave Bosnia-Herzegovina hope of getting back into the match.

Despite playing with 10 men, the United States remained composed and continued to control the game. Their hard work paid off in the 82nd minute when Malik Tillman scored a brilliant free-kick to double the lead and seal the victory.

Bosnia-Herzegovina struggled to create clear chances and failed to seriously trouble the American defence throughout the match. The USA showed more energy, confidence, and attacking quality from start to finish.

The result means the United States will now face Belgium in the next round as they continue their push for a place in the quarter-finals.

Gio Reyna was named player of the match after an impressive performance for the United States.
